Customers of online marijuana retailer Cannabis N.L. are being asked for consent to transfer their data from Canadian to U.S.-based servers, while privacy advocates are raising alarm, CBC News reports. The ecommerce platform used by Cannabis N.L. will transfer the data, including customer names and addresses, July 31. Queens University Director of Surveillance Studies David Murakami Wood said the data is moving from a jurisdiction “where it’s relatively controlled and relatively transparent and relatively private” to the “Wild West of privacy and data protection.”
