A man has avoided jail after being found with 30 cannabis plants in his loft – he told the police he was using it to self medicate his bad back.

Police officers executed a search warrant at the house of George Jacques, 45, and made a startling discovery in his loft.

Amongst the thirty cannabis plants, they found three extractor fans, six lights, seven transformers, two large fans and plant food, Minshull Street Crown Court heard.

They also found that electricity to the house had been illegally bypassed to support the growth of the 12-week-old plants.

In the kitchen, officers also found snap-bags containing cannabis blush, drug paraphernalia including scales and a replica BB gun, which he was not charged with.

An officer described the loft as a ‘good, established set up of a cannabis farm’.

The financial yield of the farm was estimated at £11,900.
