FULLY-GROWN marijuana plants with an estimated value of P2.4 million were uprooted by narcotics officials on Friday, March 18, in Columbio town, Sultan Kudarat. Law enforcement units, in coordination with village officers and media men, witnessed the uprooting of the marijuana plants. Initial investigation showed the cultivator named Leng Labuayan was not in the area during the operation. A complaint against the violation of Section 16, Article II of Republic Act 9165 as amended is being prepared against the suspect. The team immediately burned most of the uprooted marijuana plants in the area. The remaining uprooted marijuana will be submitted to the Sultan Kudarat Forensic Unit for qualitative examination. Col. Tom Tuzon, Sultan Kudarat Police provincial director, lauded the efforts of the operating team in support of the Anti-illegal Drug Operation of the PNP. Tuzon attributed the discovery of the marijuana plantation to the intensified police investigation and operation under the Oplan Ironclad of the Police Regional Office-Region 12. He encouraged the public in their quest for the eradication of all kinds of illegal drugs and other crimes through prompt reporting to the PNP and other law enforcement agencies.
