GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A local prosecutor speaking out about a brewing battle over what cannabis related products are legal in Georgia.
Gwinnett authorities recently raided two distributors, and the owners of vape stores are fighting back.
Gwinnett County District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson told Channel 2′s Tony Thomas that she hears daily about kids getting sick from using some of the products, four on Friday alone.
Her main beef is with convenience stores and gas stations.
But smoke shop owners say they are just following the law and are being targeted. They believe the law is on their side.
At issue is whether Georgians should be able to eat or smoke certain cannabis extracts — or if products are already banned under law and should be swept off shelves.

“I guess lets’ get to the heart of it. Why do you believe these products are wrong?” Thomas asked Austin-Gatson.
“We have situations right here in Gwinnett County where children are ingesting these products,” Austin-Gatson said.

Austin-Gatson said she didn’t direct the task force to strike but will prosecute what she believes are illegal sales.
“Once you put those ingredients into gummies — THC into gummies and edibles — those are strictly forbidden by law,” Austin-Gatson said.
